DOGTOWN ARTISTS

RVA Dance Collective

RVA Dance Collective sprung from the creative collaboration between artistic directors Jess Burgess, Dogtown's own Artistic & Executive Director, and Danica Kalemdaroglu.

As the resident company at Dogtown, RVA Dance Collective works tirelessly to bridge the gap between artists of all mediums in the city of Richmond. Formed under the assumption that great art cannot survive or thrive without the spirit of collaboration, RVA Dance Collective’s artistic goal is the union of all forms of art in the Central Virginia area. Burgess and Kalemdaroglu have worked with visual artists, film artists, musicians, photographers, and theatre artists in the spirit of finding absolute creativity.

Join them for FREE modern technique class every Sunday at Dogtown from 11:00am - 12:15pm!

CLAVES UNIDOS™, translated to United Rhythms, is a collective of independent artists under the artistic direction of founder Kevin LaMarr Jones. Jones believes that beyond the barriers of race, age, gender, religion, and geography, the African presence in the arts unites the world.

CLAVES UNIDOS presents dance productions and events that are life and community-affirming, including a free African Roots Community Dance Class on Saturday mornings at Dogtown. It is a ‘kinetic tour’ of African influenced dances 'between the back yard and the Caribbean'.

Dogwood Dance Project

Dogwood Dance Project strives to present dance that is accessible to a wide range of audiences, while pushing for an ever-higher level of artistry and innovation. While remaining Richmond based, Dogwood aims to work with performers, choreographers and students from across the Commonwealth in efforts to engage with as many communities as possible. Dogwood is proud to have founded the Dogwood Youth Ensemble in 2012. What began as a resume-building performance opportunity for three high school dancers from one studio has grown to a well-respected apprenticeship program which offers guest choreographers, regular class, performance, and service opportunities to upwards of 10 student dancers each year from all around the Richmond-metro area. Dogwood loves calling Dogtown Dance Theatre home, and offers seasonal masterclass opportunities as well as an annual performance of company and guest artist work in January.

For more information about classes, performances, or opportunities within Dogwood, please reach out to Managing Director, Jason Sandahl, at dogwooddanceproject@gmail.com or visit www.dogwooddanceproject.weebly.com

Studio4 Dance Agency

In 2002, 4 The Streetz Choreography was founded by Deandra Clarke. The professional hip-hop dance company served as a way for dancers in the area to move forward in pursuit of their dance aspirations without having to leave Richmond for major cities such as New York or Los Angeles, while providing them with similar performance opportunities to build their dance resumes, gain experience in the dance industry and help prepare for the point in their lives when they decide to make that move into a professional dance career in a major city.

Studio 4 Dance Company is loosely restructured from the original 4The Streetz Choreography. The current dance company will continue to serve as a way for dancers in the area to move forward in pursuit of their dance aspirations but will take it a step further in providing them with professional dance training as well. Additionally, Studio 4 Dance Company will offer an avenue for members to utilize the skills they’ve gained by hosting at least two seasonal dance performances in a local Richmond theatre, alongside traveling nationally for outside performance, workshops, and choreography opportunities that will arise throughout any given dance season.
