About the Grant

 

Dogtown Dance Theatre strives to cultivate the performing arts by offering rental space and performance opportunities to established or rising artists within the community of Richmond, Virginia. The location of the organization has made an impact on the development and awareness of performance art since 2010. Under the direction of Artistic and Executive Director Jess Burgess, Dogtown Dance Theatre is annnouncing the second Space Microgrant cycle, available to any individual artist or organization in Richmond or beyond, to further the development of their work and contribution to the community.

 

The Space Microgrant will allow one receiving individual artist or group free rental space for a total of up to 100 hours of free rental space. A recipient is chosen based on a competitive applicant pool and will be awarded with the aforementioned space. The purpose of the grant is to expand Dogtown Dance Theatre’s effort in cultivating dance and performing arts in the Richmond community.

 

Grant Guidelines and Description

 

Eligibility

• Individual artists and organizations from inside or outside of Richmond are eligible for the grant.

• The grant may only be used by artists to develop new choreographic work.

• There are no specific parameters other than the work must not make use of  paint, fire, or any heavy props, and ideas for excessive adult content will not be awarded.

• Dance movements must require either barefeet or soft-soled shoes due to the restrictions of the rehearsal space.

 

Grant Requirements

• Any work being submitted for the grant must comply with the limitations mentioned above.

• Submitted work should support in its own way, Dogtown Dance Theatre’s mission statement.

• As part of receiving the grant, recipients comply to an agreement with Dogtown Dance Theatre that wherever and whenever the work used by the grant is presented, there is recognition given towards Dogtown Dance Theatre through programs, advertisements, and social media.

  • For example: The presentation of “name of work” is made possible in part by the Space Microgrant program from Dogtown Dance Theatre.
